Westville (Georgia)

Westville is an open air museum recreating an 1850 working town in Lumpkin, Georgia, United States.

A citizens group supported creation of the living history museum. More than 30 authentically furnished, restored antebellum buildings were moved here to create the village. For special events, "Townspeople" in period dress demonstrate woodworking, baking, pottery turning, blacksmithing, and other skills from the mid-19th century. Buildings include a court house, church, school, stores, craft shops and residences.

Westville was named for Col. John Word West, a history professor at North Georgia College in Dahlonega. He collected Georgiana and encouraged appreciation of Georgia handicrafts by establishing a complex in Jonesboro, Georgia in 1928. The group who created Westville purchased buildings from the West Collection.[1]
